Sigma Nu UCF: A New Beginning for the Fraternity on Campus

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is buzzing with excitement as Sigma Nu, a fraternity with a rich history dating back to 1902, begins its recolonization effort. After being removed from campus in late 2011 due to a violation of university policies, the fraternity has been working tirelessly to regain its spot among UCF's student organizations.

According to Marcus Dufour, Sigma Nu expansion and recruitment consultant, the recolonization effort began earlier this year, with the goal of being fully reestablished by the end of spring. As of March 2, the fraternity has already accepted 43 bids, and will soon begin electing and training officers.

The leadership team has undergone extensive training in local, state, and fraternity-wide regulations to ensure a smooth transition and avoid any future missteps. Dufour emphasized that the goal is to establish Sigma Nu as the premier student organization on campus, while maintaining a high sense of ethics and excellence.

Gamma Iota's chapter was chartered over 110 years ago, making it an integral part of UK's history and the state of Kentucky. The fraternity has a long-standing tradition of contributing positively to the university community, and its recolonization is expected to have a profound impact on campus life.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs and Sigma Nu's national organization have partnered to help rebuild the Gamma Iota chapter and ensure its success. According to Vincente Sandy, assistant director of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, 'The goal is to establish a successful and contributing chapter that will be a positive presence on campus.'

With the suspension lifted in February, the fraternity is now focused on opening a new chapter in its history.
